Bacterial Leaf Blight

General Information

Bacterial Leaf Blight, caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, is one of the most destructive diseases of rice worldwide, thriving in wet and warm conditions.

Symptoms
  • Water-soaked to yellowish stripes on leaf blades or starting at leaf tips that may increase in length and width.
  • Lesions turn gray-white to yellow and eventually die.
  • In severe cases (kresek), seedlings wilt and die.
Preventive Measures
  • Plant resistant varieties.
  • Ensure proper plant spacing for good air circulation.
  • Avoid excessive nitrogen application and ensure balanced nutrition.
